About

Marcy Stone, Contemporary Artist

My life as an artist took shape in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where I began painting in 2022 and developed my practice through studio work, artist residencies, exhibitions, and a deeply supportive creative community.

In June 2026, my husband and I began a new chapter in Manta, Ecuador, where I now live and create overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The rhythm of the water, expansiveness of the light, and experience of building a life somewhere new are influencing both me and the work in ways I am still discovering.

Lancaster remains an important part of my story and the place where my artistic foundation was formed. Manta is where that story continues to evolve.

Artist Statement

I paint the way I have learned to live: I do not erase what came before, but I refuse to let it dictate what comes next. My paintings hold evidence of their own becoming—covered marks, returning colors, unexpected shifts, and glimpses of earlier decisions. I leave parts of that history visible because becoming is not about starting over. It is about creating something honest from everything we carry.

Working primarily in acrylic on wood, I build each painting intuitively through layers of color, translucent veils, texture, and partially obscured marks. I begin without a fixed outcome, responding to what emerges and allowing tension and harmony to coexist until the work finds its own equilibrium.

My vision lives in the tension between grief and joy, restraint and wildness, beauty and disruption. I call it “Respectfully Rebellious.” I am not interested in art that explains itself immediately or tells people what to feel. I want someone to pause, look again, and discover something that feels personal to them. My art is where I choose freedom, again and again, without denying the life that taught me why freedom matters.

My Belief

“The past leaves its marks. Transformation is what we create from them.”
